TUI-NA  MASSAGE

Chinese massage therapy, also known as Tuina (推拿), literally means to “push and grasp”. Considered to be the oldest system of bodywork, Tuina is one of the four main branches of traditional Chinese medicine, along with acupuncture, qi gong, and Chinese herbal medicine.

Tuina massage therapy utilizes various techniques and the practitioner's hands only (no specific equipment or locations necessary) to help patients achieve muscle relaxation, better blood circulation, and stronger immunity.

*Huang Di Nei Jing, a famous ancient Chinese medical text from between the 1st century B.C.E. and the 1st century C.E., is the first known document to define tuina massage. It contains records describing the use of massage techniques to treat certain diseases. However, archaeologists have found evidence of tuina massage dating back to about 2700 B.C.E.

The philosophy and principles of Tui-Na massage are based on traditional Chinese medicine, which focuses on emotional and physical components of a person’s well-being, as well as aspects such as climate, relationships, and diet. The underlying philosophy of Tui-Na massage is that true health is achieved when one has found harmony and balance inside the self and their environment. The goal of Tui-Na massage is to create harmony in the yin and yang of the body by getting rid of blockages and disturbances that manifest as illness, disease, and emotional issues. Similar to acupuncture, Tui-Na massage uses the same energetic meridians and acupoints to balance the qi and blood in your body, leading to better health. Qi that’s flowing incorrectly can cause blockages, such as poor blood circulation in the affected area. The main therapeutic goal of Tui-Na massage is to remove the energetic blocks that are causing qi stagnation.
